The four municipalities of South Fyn jointly own the The South Fyn Archipelago UNESCO Global Geopark.

The Geopark is organised as an inter-municipal development organisation with a board of directors, a programme management team, a secretariat and a number of thematic project groups. The secretariat focuses on local cooperation and project development, local engagement, outreach and communication, as well as international and national partnerships.

The board consists of representatives from the four municipal councils – that is, one member from each owner municipality. Eight interest organisations are affiliated with the board in an advisory capacity: the Danish Outdoor Council, Centrovice (agriculture),The Danish Society for Nature Conservation, the Danish Forest Association, the Region of Southern Denmark, the tourism industry, the tourist associations and Destination Fyn.

However, the geopark’s activities are driven by various councils and networks of partners including businesses, associations, and educational and cultural institutions. One could say that the geopark is the sum of all the excellent initiatives and projects that exist and are being implemented across the entire area – primarily within six focus areas:

Geology and nature, Education, Active outdoor activities, Geotourism, Culture and Research.
