Historical lectures on Langeland: The Etruscans and us

Gain insight into an almost forgotten ancient culture

At Valville in Tranekær, you can delve into the fascinating world of the Etruscans together with historian of ideas Kasper Nefer Olsen.

The Etruscans lived in what we now know as Tuscany, and their culture and language have been shrouded in mystery for millennia. Now you have the chance to gain new knowledge and understanding, presented in a lively and knowledgeable way.

From sheep's kidneys to dice

The lecture series takes you on a journey through language, gender roles, divination and number systems – based on concrete archaeological finds and original sources. Among other things, you will hear about the Etruscans' use of sheep's kidneys as a model for omens and their amusing version of a dice. There will also be an opportunity to hear reconstructions of Etruscan music – a rare experience.

Cultural encounters across millennia

‘The Etruscans and Us’ focuses on the connections between ancient culture and our own prehistory. It is an obvious choice for curious visitors seeking knowledge, immersion and an exciting break from everyday life.
