The open nature at Hov Østerstrand is surrounded by holiday homes. As one of the last remaining areas with heath on Langeland, the 2 hectare area was protected in 1973.

Since then, Hov Østerstrand has become overgrown with fast-growing bracken fern. The ferns are poisonous to cows and sheep. Therefore, the area cannot be preserved by grazing, and the ferns can only be removed by hand.

Walk in Hov Østerstrand

From the car park on Gulstav Petersensvej you can take a 2 km walk in the footsteps of the Bromme culture through Hov Østerstrand and along the north coast of Langeland. To the south lay the medieval castle of Hoborg.
