cycling route: Underground treasures - 50 km
Cycle through a landscape where traces of the past can still be found. Along the way, stories of gold treasures, trading centres and monuments from the Stone and Iron Ages await.

This cycling route takes you through the Gudme and Lundeborg area, home to some of Denmark’s most important archaeological sites. Along the route, traces of the Stone Age, Iron Age and early centres of power reveal a history that stretches back thousands of years.
Lundeborg is Denmark’s oldest known trading site. During the Roman Iron Age, it was an important trading centre with connections across large parts of Europe. The area was also the site of the famous Broholm Treasure, discovered in 1833 and regarded as one of Denmark’s largest gold finds. At Broholm Manor, an archaeological collection presents part of the region’s rich cultural heritage.
The route also offers access to Møllegårdsmarken, the largest burial ground from the Roman Iron Age in the Nordic region, as well as several impressive long barrows and passage graves dating back more than 5,000 years. Near Gudme, visitors can experience the outlines of Gudmekongens hal (the King’s Hall), a site that reflects Gudme’s role as one of Denmark’s most important centres of power between AD 400 and 550.
