Cycling route: A joy for all senses - 34 km
Set out on a bike ride through the South Funen countryside, where nature, culture and local stories come together. Along the way, experiences await for both the senses and the curious mind.

The route passes through landscapes where nature, cultural heritage and local food traditions form part of the experience. The tour is inspired by the values of Cittaslow, an international network that promotes quality of life, sustainability and local identity. In 2008, Svendborg Municipality became the first municipality in Denmark to join the network.
In Vester Skerninge, cyclists can stop by the historic church, parts of which date back to the thirteenth century. Next to it stands a royal charter inn housed in well-preserved half-timbered buildings, reflecting the area’s long history.
Around Vester Åby, local food production plays an important role. Small producers and roadside stalls often offer seasonal products such as strawberries, potatoes and other local produce.
The route continues through the wooded hills of De Fynske Alper, a landscape shaped by glaciers during the Ice Age. Nearby Brændegårdssøen is known for its rich birdlife, including one of Denmark’s larger cormorant colonies.
At the former school in Hundstrup stands the original tree of the Filippa apple variety. Protected since 1937, the tree remains a living reminder of one of Funen’s most well-known apples.
