Handwoven design from Ærø

At Rejkjær Textiles, you’ll discover textile design where weaving and craftsmanship are part of the entire process. Behind the brand is weaver and designer Dorthe Rejkjær, who creates her textiles and products in her workshop on Ærø.

The textiles are handwoven, and the weaving process is entirely manual. Dorthe works with shapes, patterns, colours and the texture of the materials before the finished textile takes form. The collection includes clothing, bags, blankets and smaller textile products.

Wool plays a central role in her work. Rejkjær uses Danish and Scandinavian wool as well as wool from her own Spelsau sheep.

From idea to finished textile

A design begins with sketches and choices of shape, pattern, colour and yarn. Before weaving the final textile, Dorthe creates several samples. The fabric is then cut, sewn and finished.

Dorthe also offers custom-made pieces, where your preferences for colours and details can become part of the design process. This gives you the opportunity to have a textile piece created by combining Rejkjær’s design with your personal preferences.

If you’d like to discover more of Dorthe’s work, you can explore the world of Rejkjær and see more of her textiles. On Ærø, you can also find a selection of Rejkjær products at Boutique The Monica in Ærøskøbing.
